Communications Dispatch

The Communications Unit is the primary communications link between the citizens of North Miami and emergency services. They are the first "voice" citizens hear when they request police response. The Unit is staffed to run 24/7, 365 days a year and in 2006, handled 41,369 calls for service.

The Communications Unit receives emergency and non-emergency calls and determines the proper response of manpower and resources. Calls are prioritized, dispatched, and handled efficiently and courteously in the order of importance. The Communications Unit also provides radio dispatch and complaint reception services through the Miami-Dade County Police Department.

The Unit monitors security cameras and fire alarms within the Police Station and City Hall, and the Telecommunication Device for the Deaf (TDD). Members of the Unit operate the 800-mghz radio system.

Information from Miami-Dade's Emergency Operations Center (E.O.C.) is disseminated to North Miami's E.O.C. coordinator, city leaders, and department directors, and the cities of Biscayne Park, Indian Creek, Bay Harbor, and Surfside. Since the Police Department is designated as the regional Emergency E.O.C., when emergency situations occur, the Communications Unit serves as the divisional E.O.C.
