Lieutenant
Joe LaPorte is the Office of Professional Compliance Administrator for the
City of North Miami and reports directly to the Chief of Police. His primary
responsibility is to investigate allegations of misconduct by members of
the police department. Lieutenant LaPorte manages the Early Warning System
(EWS) that monitors and tracks employee performance in high-liability issues.
Additionally, Lieutenant LaPorte is responsible for conducting quarterly
staff inspections throughout the Department. He provides support to the
Department’s training needs and is responsible to ensure that all
public records requests are complied with in accordance with Florida State
Statute. He is also the Department’s Emergency Operations Coordinator
and liaison with Miami-Dade County’s Office of Emergency Management.
Lieutenant LaPorte joined the Department in 1983 and has worked in nearly
every facet of law enforcement. He has worked in Patrol, Investigations,
and Community Patrol. Lieutenant LaPorte has served as a Field Training
Officer, Certified Instructor, Background Investigator, and is a trained
Assessor utilized by outside agencies in their promotional process. In
1992, Lieutenant LaPorte was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. He supervised
Patrol and Community Resources Units. In 1999, he was promoted to the
rank of Lieutenant. A native Miamian, Lieutenant LaPorte attended Miami
Killian High and earned his Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice
at Florida International University. He later attained his Master’s
degree in Public Administration from FIU. Lieutenant LaPorte graduated
from the 42nd Command Officers Development Course at the Southern Police
Institute. |
