The North Miami Police Department’s “Officers of the Month” for July are Officers Duhamel Jeanite and Alfred Bryant, who are currently assigned to the Uniform Patrol Section, midnight shift. Sergeant Donn Clarke nominated tehm after recognizing their initiative, vigilance and dedication to duty in the following case:

On July 2, 2009, they were on foot patrol at 12955 NE 6 Avenue after receiving numerous complaints of criminal activity. While there, a picup truck pulled into th eparking lot and 3 subjects got out and left the engine running. When the subjects saw the officers, they fled into the building. The truck was left running with no key in the ignition, a broken steering column and several tires and rims in the bed of the truck. After requesting back-up, the building was searched and the subjects were lovated on the 4 floor of the aprtament buiolding. Officer Bryant recognized one of them from a flyer posted in teh Detective Bureau where he was wanted for a residential bulglary.

The subjects were questioned and one admitted the vehicle theft and admitted he had intentions of crashing it into a parked vehicle for insurance and fraud purposes, somthing he had also done a week earlier. The rest of the subjects admitted stealing the rims and two of them had bulglary tools in their possession.

The subjects were arrested on 2 counts of Grand Theft Auto, Possession of Burglary Toold, Resisting Arrest without Violence, Trespassing and Leaving the Scene of a Traffic Crash with Property Damage. North Miami Detectives chrged the one with residential burglary but all three provided the detectives with valuable information. The National Insurance Crime Bureau was notified of the fraud.

Officers Jeanite and Bryant are to be commended for their initiative and perseverance. They were selected as Officers fo the Month for July 2009 and will be honored at the Greater North Miami Chamber of Commerce luncheon on Wednesday, August 26 2009 at Noon.
