The North Miami Police Department’s “Officer of the Month" for September is Officer Jodlyn Antoine, who is currently assigned to the Uniform Patrol Section, day shift. Sergeant Pedro Dominguez nominated him ater recognizing his efforts, vigilance and dedication to duty in the following case:

On September 7, 2009, Officer Antoine responded to an armed robbery in the area of NE 19 Avenue and NE 145 Street. A female had been walking east on NE 145 Street and was approached from behind by a male subject. The subject confronted the victim and threatened to shoot her if she did not relinquish her purse. The victim hesitated and was knocked ot he ground.

The subject forcibly took her purse, but the battered victim managed to get to a telephone and called police for help. Moments later, Officer Antoine arrived in the area and observed the subject, still carrying the victim's purse, walking west in the 1700 block of NE 145 Street. As Officer Antoine attemped to stop the subject, he immediately took flight and Officer Antoine instantly engaged in a foot pursuit.

Officer Antoine chased the subject through a residential area while calmly advising the subject's direction of travel over the police radio. a perimeter was quickly established and searched. The subject was located and taken into custody. A search of the subject revealed the victim's $206.00 in his possession and a subsequent records check of the subject classified him as a 'Signal 400' registered criminal.

Officer Antoine continued searching the area for an additional two hours and found the victim's purse and its remaining contents that had been discarded by the subject.

Officer Antoine was selected as Officer of the Month for September 2009 and will be honored at the Greater North Miami Chamber of Commerce luncheon on Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at Noon.
