Clint Shannon - Police Chief

Chief Clint Shannon is a South Florida native, born and raised in Miami. He grew up in North Miami and graduated from North Miami High School. Chief Shannon joined the North Miami Police Department in 1979.

During his 29-year career with the North Miami Police Department, Chief Shannon has been assigned to Uniform Patrol, was a detective in the Investigative Unit and was a part of the Department’s first Homicide Unit in 1983. In 1990, he was promoted to Sergeant and supervised Uniform Patrol Section and the Training and Human Resource Unit. He has also performed internal affairs and background investigations. In 1993, Chief Shannon was promoted to Lieutenant, and in 1998, he was promoted to Major and placed in charge of the Investigative Division, which includes the Department’s Narcotics Unit and various task force operations.

In April 2002, Chief Shannon was appointed to the rank of Assistant Chief until November 2007, when the City Manager, with the support of the City Council, appointed him as the City's Chief of Police.

Chief Shannon holds a Bachelor’s Degree from St. Thomas University in Organizational Leadership and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, 202nd Session. Chief Shannon is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, Dade County Association of Chief’s of Police, and a member of the South Florida Money Laundering Strike Force Steering Committee.
