Major Larry Juriga was born in the City of North Miami and raised in South Florida. He earned his Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice from Barry University, where he competed as a scholar-athlete in basketball. Major Juriga began working with the North Miami Police Department in 1994. At the start of his career, he had the opportunity to work in the Uniform Patrol Section as an officer on the street. He was transferred into the General Investigations Unit in 1997, where he handled major criminal cases as a detective. In 1999, Major Juriga was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. At that time, he had the opportunity to supervise and work with personnel in the Uniform Patrol Section as well as in the Investigative Section. He was appointed to the position of Major in 2003, and he currently oversees the Investigative Section and the Office of Professional Compliance.
In his current capacity, Major Juriga is responsible for the direction and control of the members of the Investigative Section, who handle all major investigations for person and property crimes, as well as crimes of domestic violence and missing persons. Unlawful drug activity, vice crimes, money laundering, gangs and violent street crimes are also handled by Investigative Units. Crime Scene Investigations, Crime Analysis and Victim’s Advocacy also fall within the scope of the Investigative Section.
Major Juriga is an active member of the Department’s S.W.A.T. Team. He is the Department’s Fitness Coordinator, and he oversees the Physical Fitness Program. Major Juriga is currently pursuing his Masters Degree in Public Administration at Florida International University.
