Crime Analysis is defined as a set of systematic, analytical processes directed at timely crime information and trend analysis to assist operational and administrative personnel.
The North Miami Police Department has a Crime Analyst assigned to the Investigative Division. The Crime Analyst is responsible for producing crime summaries, crime profiles, subject profiles, zone statistics, flyers for wanted persons, crime trend reports, Stat Trax presentations, subject line-ups, and subject information queries.
There are 3 Types of Crime Analysis Processes:
- Tactical Analysis: deals with recent criminal offenses (immediate, hours, days, weeks). It promotes a quick response to recent offenses such as burglaries and robberies. Tactical crime analysis provides timely information to assist operations personnel in the identification of specific crime trends and in the arrest of criminal offenders.
- Strategic Analysis: is primarily concerned with operational strategies and seeks solutions to on-going problems (weeks, months, quarters or years). The purpose of strategic analysis is to perform police service more effectively and efficiently by matching service delivery to demands for service.
- Administrative Analysis: deals with long-range comparisons (quarterly, semi-annually or annually). It provides statistical, economic, geographic, or social information to administrators.
