The K-9 Unit is comprised of three teams; each team consists of a handler and his respective dog. Currently, each police K-9 is certified in apprehension, tracking, & narcotics detection. Each team attends approximately 640 hours of initial training as well as additional weekly training. The K-9 Officers and their partners are responsible for the apprehension of criminal suspects in dangerous situations, locating missing persons, and the detection of hidden narcotics. The K-9 teams visit schools for educational and demonstration purposes, and participate in city events throughout the year. Their service to the community and their fellow officers has proven to be invaluable.
