"OFFICER OF THE MONTH" JUNE 2014
SERGEANT TORY HOLMES

The North Miami Police Department’s “Officer of the Month”for June 2014 is Sergeant Tory Holmes, who is assigned as the Afternoon Shift Supervisor of the Patrol Section. Sergeant Holmes has been a member of the North Miami Police Department for six years. Sergeant Holmes is recognized for his extraordinary effort and dedication to the City of North Miami Police Department. He was nominated by Commander Pedro Dominguez for the following case: on June 6th, 2014, while patrolling the Eastside of the City, Sergeant Holmes noticed a white male riding a bicycle along the Biscayne Boulevard corridor near 135th Street. As he studied the white male with some curiosity, he suddenly recognized him as a wanted person from a police flyer.

Realizing this subject was wanted for robbery; Sergeant Holmes immediately sprung into action and began to follow him, while notifying the police dispatcher of his sighting.

As additional units moved into position, Sergeant Holmes attempted to stop the subject by approaching him from behind in his vehicle and activating his lights and siren. Almost instantly, the wanted subject dropped his bicycle and fled towards the Highland Village trailer park. Sergeant Holmes quickly exited his vehicle and pursued on foot.

As Sergeant Holmes chased the subject over fences and through shrubbery, he simultaneously advised the dispatcher of the subject’s direction of travel over the police radio. Sergeant Holmes chased the subject to a residence inside the Highland Village trailer park, where a police perimeter was quickly established around the residence.

As information was gathered at the parameterized trailer home, it was learned that the residence belonged to the fleeing subject’s mother. Upon the arrival of the North Miami Police Canine Units, a search of the residence quickly produced a hiding, wanted robbery subject inside one of the bedrooms.

Sergeant Holmes’ alertness, tenacious effort, and rapid response, clearly demonstrates his exceptional mastery of police skills along with his leadership qualities, which earns him the respect and loyalty of his subordinates. Due to these professional skills and spirited team effort, a dangerous and wanted criminal was taken off the streets of North Miami and delivered to the Miami-Dade County Jail.

Sergeant Tory Holmes was chosen as Officer of the Month for June 2014 and will be honored at the Greater North Miami Chamber of Commerce luncheon, held quarterly at the Miami Shores Country Club, on Wednesday,  July 23, 2014 at 12:00 Noon.
