The cameras will take photos and video of red-light runners, this include vehicles that do not make a complete stop prior to turning right on red.
After July 1, 2010, violators will be sent a notice in the mail with pictures of the violations and a web address to view the video of the violation. A violator will have 30 days to pay the $158 fine. If the violator does not pay the fine or wants to constest the violation they will be issued a UTC after the 30 day pay and review periods has expired. Once a UTC is issued the violator can request a court date. All violations after July 1, 2010, will be heard in Miami-Dade County Court. the County Court will add court costs to the fine of $158.0.

Violations issued prior to July 1, 2010, will not be issued a UTC and are violations of City Ordinance.

The Florida State Statue regarding a red light traffic signal states:
1. Vehicular traffic facing a steady red signal shall stop before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection or, if none, then before entering the intersection and shall remain standing until a green indication is shown; however:

a. The driver of a vehicle which is stopped at a clearly marked stop line, but if none, before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection, or, if none then at the point nearest the intersecting roadway where the driver has a view of approaching traffic on the intersecting roadway before entering the intersection in obedience to a steady red signal may make a right turn, but shall yield the right-of-way to pedestrians and other traffic proceeding as directed by the signal at the intersection, except that municipal and county authorities may prohibit any such right turn against a steady red signal at any intersection, which prohibition shall be effective when a sign giving notice thereof is erected in a location visible to traffic approaching the intersection.

As a reminder, vehicles must make a complete and full stop at red light prior to turning right unless the intersection is posted "No right turns on red" then no turns on red are allowed.
