The Traffic Safety Unit consists of 5 officers. These officers have received specialized training in traffic safety, traffic homicide investigations, and police motorcycle operations. On a daily basis the officers enforce traffic laws across North Miami. In addition, the unit does various community outreach programs.

Over the past two years the number of traffic crashes in the City has decreased. The traffic unit continuously monitors and analysis traffic crash data. They then use selective enforcement techniques at the locations with the highest number of traffic crashes and concentrate on violations, which caused the crashes such as speeding or red light running.

The traffic unit also participates in various local and statewide traffic safety campaigns: sustained DUI enforcement, Click It Or Ticket it, Don't Block the Box, and Operation Life Saver.
