The City of North Miami's new state of the art 33 foot Deep Impact. This vessel is equipped with radar, GPS, and depth finding equipment. The North Miami Marine Patrol Unit consists of two officers. These officers have received specialized training in vesel operation, marine law, and federal law. These officers patrol the waterways of the greater North Miami Marine Area. They assist distressed boaters and enforce laws on the water. The unit works closely with other local, state and federal law enforcement agencies. The unit participates in many on going marine initiatives. Some of these initiatives are for the Department of Homeland Security. The marine officers check vessels entering the United States for illegal aliens, weapons of mass destruction and contraband. Over the past few years the unit has found illegal aliens and drugs. The unit also works with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Coservation Commission to preserve the natural resources around North Maimi. The unit curently has one 33-foot Deep Impact and one 26-foot Mako. The unit is exploring the feasibility of purchasing a smaller 12 foot rescues boat. This vessel could be used on in-land waterways (cannels) or for urban flooding rescues.
